The curriculum at Mary Castle meets all state and local requirements as do all other Lawrence Township elementary schools.
Students study reading and language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, health, art, music and physical education. Students at Mary Castle will write everyday. Our primary students are becoming writers by writing books while they are being exposed to numerous published books. Good readers make good writers. Matt Glover an educator and published author has spent several days at Mary Castle providing professional development for our staff on Writers Workshop. Be sure to ask your child what unit of study they are working upon in writing whether its poetry, realistic fiction, memoirs, personal narratives, etc. The language block occurs every day for approximately a 90 minute chunk of time in each grade level. As students finish a unit of study are celebrating their writing by finding various audiences to share their writing. Intermediate teachers are requesting donations of the following magazines so students can examine articles for Writers Workshop. (American Girl, Highlights, Ranger Rick) The students will be examining how writers write. For example: What does a published Realistic Fiction short story look like?) If you have any old copies that you would be willing to donate to Mary Castle please send them to the office.
